David A. Africano

David A. Africano is the Chief Information Security Officer of Volar Security and Advisor to BlocSec.

 

Mr. Africano is a technology and cybersecurity executive with more than 23 years of experience in information technology. Mr. Africano served in various progressive capacities, ranging from Senior Network Engineer to Director of I.T. Infrastructure to his current position within Volar Security. He establishes and directs the long-term strategic goals, policies, and procedures for the organization’s information security.

 

Previously, Mr. Africano served in the U.S. Army as a parachute rigger and paratrooper with the Airborne Corps, supporting and jumping with the 2nd Battalion/75th Ranger Regiment, the 82nd Airborne Division, Airborne and Special Operations Test Directorate, and the 3rd Battalion (Airborne)/325th Infantry Regiment-SETAF while stationed in Livorno and Vicenza, Italy.

 

He is a member of the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), the Project Management Institute (PMI), and the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP).

 

He has achieved multiple cybersecurity certifications, including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Security +, CMMC-AB Registered Practioner, and continues his lifelong learning journey.

 

He participates in several community organizations as a volunteer, including:
